Pat Green Suffered A “Deeply Personal” Loss During The Texas Floods

After the devastating Texas floods, country artists, including Texas native Pat Green, have stepped up to host benefit concerts for relief efforts. But for Pat, the matter is personal, as he lost four family members.

On July 7, Pat shared that his family had suffered “a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss” during the floods. Later, it was confirmed that Pat’s brother John, John’s wife Julia, and their two young sons were killed.

John and Julia also had a daughter, who survived. “Thankfully, our niece has survived,” Pat told FOX 4. “And now it’s time we think about how we can rebuild the life around her.

While mourning his own loss, Pat thought about others who’d lost loved ones during the floods in his home state:

“And then I thought about how many thousands of people across the great state have been directly affected by this and how many of their families have to do the same thing. I just want to give so much love to my parents who lost their children and their grandchildren.”

Pat quickly put together a virtual benefit concert, with the all-star lineup featuring performers such as Jon Pardi, Jamey Johnson, and Dierks Bentley. Held on July 16 at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the concert raised over $1 million for flood relief efforts.

“I’ve always believed in the power of the community of musicians and music fans,” Pat said in a social media post after the show. “Everyone came together last night, where that belief was confirmed in the most beautiful way. Over $1 million raised for flood victims by the end of the broadcast alone.”

Pat Green Dedicates Emotional Performance Of “Wave On Wave” To His Brother, Sister-In-Law, And Nephews

Two days after his benefit concert for Texas flood relief, Pat Green had a performance at the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Before singing his popular hit “Wave On Wave,” Pat dedicated the song to his brother, sister-in-law, and nephews.

Pat’s heartache was evident, and he struggled to maintain composure during his performance. Then, near the end of the song, he delivered a tear-jerking message:

“Be kind to one another, love one another, be gentle. Do things with purpose. Let the people around you know exactly what you think about them as often as you can. Anyway, I sure hope you had fun with us. Let’s end this thing on a high note. Y’all wanna sing?”

From there, the crowd helped Pat finish the rest of “Wave on Wave.” It was a touching, yet heartbreaking tribute to his brother, sister-in-law, and nephews.

One of the attendees happened to film the performance, and they shared the video on YouTube. You can find that video below.

The attendee wrote in the video’s description that the concert occurred on the same day as Pat’s family members’ funerals. With that in mind, his “Wave on Wave” tribute is even more emotional. It’s hard to imagine the pain Pat must have felt in that moment, and throughout the past few weeks.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Pat Green and his family during this difficult time…
