Food Network Star Anne Burrell Was Found Unresponsive In Her New York City Home On June 17

A newly released 911 call report is offering a window into the tragedy surrounding Chef Anne Burrell’s unexpected death at the age of 55.

Burrell was beloved as the longtime host of Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America. She first appeared on the program in 2010 and hosted it for 27 seasons.

Burrell did not return for the show’s 28th season. When fans questioned why she wasn’t on the new season, she said, “I don’t know,” leaving people to assume she may not have been asked to return. But she promised to “try” and come back for Season 29.

Despite her departure from Worst Cooks, Burrell seemed to be enjoying her life in New York City. She recently started taking improv classes and performed at an improv show the night before tragedy struck.

On Tuesday (June 17), TMZ reported that authorities responded to a 911 call at Anne Burrell’s home in Brooklyn around 7:50 AM that morning. PEOPLE reports that she was found “unconscious and unresponsive” and pronounced dead at the scene.

Burrell’s family confirmed the news of her passing. They released a statement that read:

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.

Newly Released Report Showcases 911 Caller’s Concerns

Burrell’s official cause of death has yet to be confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Investigations like these take time, so it could be several weeks before an official report is released.

However, the New York City Fire Department recently provided a 911 call report to PEOPLE and other media outlets. The report illustrates the 911 caller’s concerns about Burrell’s cause of death, with PEOPLE stating:

“…a person called in at 7:50 a.m. concerned that [Burrell] had suffered cardiac arrest.”

The 911 call report didn’t mention Anne Burrell by name, but PEOPLE confirmed that the address listed in the report matches Burrell’s.

Stay tuned as this story continues to develop.

Burrell is survived by her children, Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, her husband, Stuart Claxton, her stepson, Javier, her mother, Marlene, her sister, Jane, and her brother, Ben. Our hearts and prayers go out to them during this difficult time.
