Former Professional Golfer Dies At 45
Former PGA Tour golfer Matt McQuillan has died at the age of 45.
McQuillan, a native of Kingston, Ontario, began his professional career on the Canadian Tour before earning his PGA Tour status in 2011.
That season, McQuillan delivered the best performance of his PGA Tour career at the John Deere Classic. The impressive third-place finish earned him $261,000 and marked the highest finish of his PGA Tour career.

According to an obituary published following his death, McQuillan passed away at Kingston General Hospital on Wednesday (August 5), surrounded by family. He was remembered as a devoted son, brother, friend and passionate golfer.
“It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Matthew Justin McQuillan (Matty to most). He passed away at KGH Wednesday August 5, 2026, surrounded by family. Matty was a respected golfer, devoted son, hilarious brother, and friend,” his obituary states. “He will be deeply missed by many and his spirit, love and compassion will be remembered every day. Rest easy, Matty. We love you.”
A cause of death has not been publicly released.
McQuillan’s journey to the PGA Tour was the culmination of years of hard work. After beginning to play golf as a child, he eventually earned his PGA Tour card through qualifying in 2010 and competed on the tour throughout the 2011 season. He later continued his professional career on PGA Tour Canada.
McQuillan remained involved in the game in recent years, working as a teaching professional in his hometown and encouraging aspiring golfers.
