Ashley Monroe Reveals Her Granni Passed Away – “I Got A Call That Broke My Heart Wide Open”
Country singer Ashley Monroe finds herself mourning the loss of her beloved Granni.
Early on Thursday (August 28), Monroe shared that she was in Scotland when she received “a call that broke [her] heart wide open.”
“My precious Granni had quickly taken a turn for the worse, and wasn’t going to make it,” Monroe wrote on Instagram.
Thankfully, Monroe got the chance to speak to her Granni one last time.
“I was able to call her and tell her she was the best Granni I could ever ask for, and that I was going to miss her so much, but that I know I’ll see her again… and I do,” she said.
Monroe called her Granni her “best friend.” They made biscuits and gravy together, watched The Young and the Restless, and loved shopping at the mall.
Although she’s devastated to have lost her Granni, Monroe is grateful she had her in her life for so long. She’s extra grateful her Granni got to be a great-Granni to her eight-year-old son, Dalton William Danks.
“She will be in my heart every second til I’m back with her again,” Monroe wrote.
Monroe also posted a few photos of her Granni. You can see those sweet snapshots in the slideshow below.

Monroe released her debut solo album, Satisfied, in 2009. She’s since released five other solo albums, the most recent being Tennessee Lightning.
The 17-track project dropped on August 8. Monroe said “it’s a patchwork quilt of all the pieces of my heart; the beginning the innocence, the grief, and the lessons learned from it all.“

On top of her solo work, Monroe also sings in the Pistol Annies with her longtime friends Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley. They’ve released three regular albums together, which produced the hits “Hell on Heels,” “Hush Hush,” and “Got My Name Changed Back.”
The Pistol Annies’ most recent project was their 2021 Christmas album, Hell of a Holiday.
We imagine Lambert and Presley are supporting Monroe behind the scenes while she mourns her Granni’s death. Her family will be in our prayers…
