Post Malone Dove Into The Country Scene In 2023

Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, was a surprise guest at the 2023 CMA Awards, where he performed “Pickup Man” with HARDY and Morgan Wallen, who had just sang another Joe Diffie hit, “John Deere Green.”

The epic performance was in support of HARDY’s Hixtape Vol. 3: Difftape, a compilation album in tribute to Joe Diffie, who died in 2020 from complications with COVID-19. Luke Combs, Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, Blake Shelton, and many more were also featured on the album.

This performance left fans wondering if Post Malone would be transitioning from rock/rap to country. The answer was YES.

Post Malone began playing at honytonks in Nashville and revealed he had a country album in the works.

Post Malone Released First Country Album In 2024

On August 16, 2024, Post Malone released his long-awaited country music album. Throughout the year, he had teased several songs from the album including “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen, “Guy For That” with Luke Combs, “Pour Me A Drink” with Blake Shelton, “Losers” with Jelly Roll, and “Wrong Ones” with Tim McGraw.

The album, titled F-1 Trillion, included 18 tracks, 17 of which were collaborations with country legends and stars. His only solo song was titled “Yours” and is dedicated to his young daughter.

Just hours after released F-1 Trillion to much fanfare, he dropped F-1 Trillion: Long Bed, an extended version of the album that had nine songs all performed by him and him alone.

Unlike other artists that have attempted to crossover into the country genre, Post Malone has been welcomed by the community with open arms. His album received nominations for Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, and Video of the Year for “I Had Some Help” at the 2024 CMA Awards.

At the Grammys in early 2025, he was nominated for Best Country Album, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, and Best Country Song. He lost Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance to Beyoncé, which was highly controversial.

For their overseas dates, they are heading to Romania, Hungary, Czechia, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Lithuania, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal.

Their tour recently went viral when it took some fans in Missouri three hours to get into the venue, while many missed the show completely because of the terrible traffic.

Because of Post Malone’s success in the country music industry, fans have wondered if he will continue releasing country music. Finally, we have an answer for that question…yes!

Post Malone Gives Insight On Second Country Album

While his next album will be seventh studio album, it will only be his second in the country music genre.

His band includes guitarist Derek Wells, who has contributed to over 100 #1 singles, pedal steel guitarist Chandler Walters, and bass player Craig Young.

Wells spoke with USA Today about what the plans are for Post’s next album, and gave insight on what we can expect.

“Performing country music is an entirely different discipline and requires an entirely different vocal delivery from working in pop,” Wells said. “Moving away from having his voice saturated with vocal effects and treatments has him really working, especially onstage, to deliver a quality show every night.”

Wells continued, “There’s also more fiddle, pedal steel, guitar solos. Where we started as two feet over the line into traditional country on ‘F-1 Trillion’ has turned into head, chest, shoulders and feet across the line on where we’re headed with the next batch of songs.”

USA Today writes that Post will take inspiration from George Jones and George Strait’s ’80s-eras.

This might be good timing to go more traditional, as the Grammys just announced they will be adding a Best Traditional Country Album category.

Post Malone wants to be respectful to the genre he grew up listening to in Dallas, Texas.

“I want to make sure I do things with respect,” he said. “I feel honored that everyone has been accepting and patient with me.”
