Post Malone, who was born Austin Richard Post, once believed that Blake Shelton’s 2001 debut single, “Austin,” was about him.

Blake Shelton recently sat down with American Songwriter to discuss his new collaboration with Post Malone, “Pour Me A Drink.” The track will be featured on Post Malone’s highly anticipated debut country album, F-1 Trillion. He will be going on tour to support the new project.

Post Malone and Blake Shelton first debuted “Pour Me A Drink” at CMA Fest. A few weeks later, they released the official music video.

During Shelton’s recent chat with the publication, he revealed a fun tidbit about Post Malone.

Post Malone told Blake Shelton that his mom had told him, back in the day, that Shelton’s 2001 hit, “Austin,” was actually written about him.

“Post’s real name is Austin, and he told me that when he was a kid, his mom told him that that song was written about him,” Shelton revealed. “That’s what he told me, and he said he believed it. His mom was, I guess, the country music fan in the family, and his dad was the rock guy. So, I guess that’s how Post Malone was created.”

“Austin” was the first-ever single Blake Shelton released. The song marked Shelton’s first number one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, where it held the top spot for five weeks. Additionally, the song made waves on pop radio, reaching a peak position of number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Fun fact: Post Malone would have been in first grade when Blake Shelton dropped his debut album.

Shelton said that he is proud of “Pour Me A Drink,” and he had a blast recording with the Texas-born superstar.

“I’m proud of that record. I’m proud to have worked with him. I think he’s an incredibly talented guy. Now that I’ve spent some time with him, it’s no mystery to me that he’s as huge as he is as an artist and successful as he is because he’s just somebody that you just love being around. He’s just so much fun.”

Shelton also mentioned that Malone shared 13 or 14 of the songs he was developing for F-1 Trillion. Target accidentally revealed all the collaborations on the project a few days ago.
