Quarantined Grandpa Gets Engagement News From Granddaughter

Carly Boyd got engaged on March 14, 2020, and of course one of the first things she wanted to do was share the news with all her friends and family. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions put on all senior facilities because of the coronavirus, Carly was unable to share the news with her grandfather the way she would have hoped.

After expressing her feelings to the facility that her grandfather was quarantined in, they devised a plan to surprise him with the news. Gennie Parnell, an administrator for the Premier Living & Rehab Center in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, helped ensure that the magical moment was caught on camera so they can remember it always.

Carly’s 87-year-old grandfather was enjoying eating ice cream with his roommate when the staff came in to tell him he had a surprise waiting outside his window. They opened the drapes and there was Carly smiling pointing to her left ring finger adorning her brand new engagement ring. He looked over with a big smile on his face.

Parnell told NBC News:

“He got up to see it better and she put her hand up on the window and he put his hand on the window, and we all just fell apart. He told her to come on in and she told him she couldn’t but that she loved him. He told her he loved her, too. You could hear the emotion in his voice and we all had a good cry!”

Carly shared on her Facebook page how happy she was to be able to share the news with her grandfather even under the current circumstances.
