Queen Latifah Makes Her “Voice” Coaching Debut
Queen Latifah has made her coaching debut this year on Season 30 of The Voice.
The Grammy-winning singer and actress joined the coaching panel alongside country music star Riley Green, with returning coaches Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.
The season also introduced a new “First-In” button during the Blind Auditions, giving coaches the opportunity to automatically claim an artist for their team if they were the first to press it. Latifah used that button during the premiere when she secured 16-year-old singer Mia Knight for her team.
Queen Latifah wasted no time making an impression during her first season as a coach on the show. According to her fellow colleagues, she quickly became a force to be reckoned with during the Blind Auditions, convincing several singers to join her team.
“We lost a lot of people in the blinds to Queen,” Clarkson said of the singer.
And before she began her journey on The Voice, Latifah admits she called former coach and professional singer, John Legend, for some advice. With years of experience in the famous red chair, Legend was able to offer Latifah some insider tips as she prepared to make her big debut.
“I was like, ‘John, what do I do? How does this work? What’s the vibe?’ He gave me a little bit of a rundown and ultimately was like, ‘You’re going to be great. You’re going to have fun. You’re there for the right reasons.’ And so far everything has been pretty much as it is,” Latifah told PEOPLE.
Legend first joined the NBC singing competition in 2019 during Season 16. He won the show during that season with contestant Maelyn Jarmon.
You can watch Queen Latifah as new episodes of The Voice air Monday nights on NBC and are available to stream the following day on Peacock.
