Reba McEntire And Her Family Have Been Mourning The Loss of her Stepson, Brandon Blackstock

Music manager turned rancher Brandon Blackstock passed away on August 7, 2025, leaving behind four children, Savannah, Seth, River, and Remington, as well a large extended family.

As most fans know, he had River and Remington with Kelly Clarkson during their seven-year marriage.

Among the extended family members is Reba McEntire, who was his stepmother. Reba was married to Brandon’s dad, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015, and share a son, Shelby, together.

Although Reba and Narvel split, Reba remained close with his children from his first marriage, which included Brandon and his sisters Shawna and Chassidy. In fact, they all recently supported Reba at her RodeoHouston performance in March 2025.

Reba took to social media to say a few words about her stepson, writing, “Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”

Reba Reveals How Blackstock’s Children Are Doing

Reba attended the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night (Sept. 14) with her fiancé Rex Linn, who also stars on the sitcom Happy’s Place with her. She was in attendance to perform a tribute to The Golden Girls with Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman in honor of the 40th anniversary of the show’s premiere.

The trio of country-singing ladies sang “Thank You For Being A Friend,” the iconic theme song of the classic sitcom.

Reba and Rex gave several interviews on the red carpet, including one with Entertainment Tonight‘s Cassie DiLaura, who has visited them on the Happy’s Place set before.

They spoke about the fun they have on the set together before Reba and Rex invited her back to join them.

At the end of the interview, DiLaura offered her condolences following Brandon’s passing, saying, “Of course, we have been keeping you in our thoughts, and your family. The last few weeks I know have been difficult for you. How are you holding up with the passing of Brandon [Blackstock]?”

Reba looked touched as she responded, “Well, we miss him, we miss him every minute,” before offering some insight on how Brandon’s four children are doing.

“The kids are doing well. They are all bonding together and hanging out with each other, and taking it one day at a time. We know God’s got this.”

When DiLaura asked how Reba’s son, Shelby, was doing, Reba said, “Shelby’s doing great, thank you for asking.”

We are happy to hear that Brandon’s kids, and the rest of the family, are doing well, despite the difficult times they have been going through.

Kelly Clarkson returns for the seventh season of her talk show on September 29, where we will likely get another update on how her children are doing.
