During his Sept. 4 appearance on the Today Show promoting both his upcoming new album, That’s Just Me, and the start of Season 30 of The Voice, Riley was asked a personal question about what kind of gal he’s interested in.
Framing the question, Today Show co-anchor Craig Melvin said that one of the show’s producers wanted to know if Riley was looking for an Alabama girl or a Nashville girl.
Quickly, Riley asked, “Well, where’s she from?”
Melvin replied, “She’s from Nashville.”
With a grin, Riley then said, “Well, maybe that’s it.”
From there, Riley then offered a more sincere answer, “I don’t know what I’m looking for, you know?”
Responding, Melvin said, “That can’t be true.”
Expounding on that, Riley said that he doesn’t care where someone lives, but Melvin then doubled down, asking, “So what are you looking for?”
Riley then said, “Probably just somebody that I think my mom will like.”
Mentioning his dog, Carl, Riley then added, “If Carl and my mom like her … We should just line ’em up and have Carl see who he goes to.”
Melvin joked that they could do that next week.
