The Ringtone That Turned RFK Jr.’s Presser Into A Punchline
on

During a press conference in Rochester, Minnesota, on Friday, Aug. 21, HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. introduced a new alert system called the National Autism Missing and Endangered Person Alert.
However, the announcement of this new federal initiative was overshadowed by a ringtone that RFK Jr. hadn’t silenced.
Sometimes, having a fun ringtone isn’t all it’s quacked up to be…

Under RFK Jr’s leadership, Health and Human Services is partnering with the Department of Justice and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to establish a new alert system regarding missing autistic individuals as well as other vulnerable populations who are at risk.
“President Trump has made improving the lives of Americans with autism and their families one of his top priorities,” RFK Jr. said. “Today, we are acting on that commitment.”
Continuing, he said:
“When an autistic child or adult goes missing, every minute matters. Approximately half of autistic individuals will wander from a safe setting at some point. Wandering can happen during sensory overloads, anxiety, or when someone seeks some kind of new adventure or new experience. The consequence can be deadly.”
From there, RFK Jr. said that approximately eight autistic people die each month from wandering incidents, with drowning being the top cause of death in these situations.
“Children with autism are 100 times more likely to drown than neurotypical children,” RFK Jr. said. “And we have a responsibility to do better –“
It was at that moment, just over a minute into his remarks, that a sound of a duck could suddenly be heard.
RFK Jr. apologized as he swiftly reached into his blazer pocket and removed the culprit: his smartphone.

Of course, this moment became an instant source of fodder for his most devoted critics, with some online leaning into the trope of a “quack doctor.”
Quackery, according to Britannica, is “the characteristic practice of quacks or charlatans, who pretend to knowledge and skill that they do not possess, particularly in medicine.”
While RFK Jr. is not a doctor, and his background is in environmental protection, he has authority over a myriad of federal health policies as the Health and Human Services secretary.
On X, formerly Twitter, one user wrote about the ringtone, “Even his phone knew he was quacking!!”
Another person wrote, “Thoughts and prayers for US parody writers. How do you compete with this? Medical science conspiracy theorist [RFK Jr.] has a ‘quack’ ringtone.”
This is not the first time that RFK Jr.’s duck call cellphone ringtone has interrupted one of his events, as it also issued a few audible quacks during his unveiling of the new food pyramid in January.
Coincidentally, this past weekend — on Aug. 23 — marked two full years since RFK Jr. suspended his 2024 presidential campaign as an Independent and went on to endorse President Donald Trump.
In that moment, the Make America Healthy Again, or MAHA, movement became a reality.
