Rob Reiner Dead At 78
Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found deceased inside of their Los Angeles mansion on December 14, 2025.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the residence in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue around 3:38 p.m. following a call for medical assistance.
Local news outlets reported responders then located the bodies of a man believed to be about 78 years old and a woman believed to be about 68 years old inside the home.
The New York Times reported that a massage therapist arrived at the home for an appointment, but no one answered the gate. The therapist then called the couple’s daughter, Romy, who came over and discovered her father’s body.
She learned her mother had also died from the paramedics. Several hours later, her brother Nick was arrested in connection with the murders.

Jake Reiner Speaks Out In Emotional Essay
In a personal essay titled “Mom and Dad,” Jake is opening up about how he learned about his parents tragic passing.
“On the afternoon of December 14, I was in Union Station at a celebration of life for one of my best friends, Christian Anderson, who died in October,” Jake said in the essay shared to Substack. “It was at that moment I received a call from my sister Romy telling me our father was dead. Minutes later, she called back telling me our mother was also dead.”
Jake shared that what came next was “unendurable.”
“My world, as I knew it, had collapsed,” he said. “I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened.”
While he is trying to move forward in life, Jake says him and Romy are hoping to keep the details of what happened “private” as it “is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us.”
“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” Jake continued. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”
Jake shared that beyond every monetary and luxurious experience they shared due to his father’s status, he would trade it all just to be with them again.
“It’s not lost on me that I was able to have these incredible experiences, that most people don’t get to have, because of who my parents were,” he said. “But I would trade every Dodger game, every Broadway show, every vacation, if I could just spend just one more hour talking to them and to say goodbye.”
Jake addressed his brother’s allegations and role in the ordeal, saying that was perhaps one of the most painful aspects.
“We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable. Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it,” he continued.
Nick Reiner is expected to next appear in court on Wednesday (April 29).
