Actor and comedian Rob Schneider sent a clear message to his daughter, singer Elle King, a day after she called him out in a podcast interview.

Rob Schneider, a television personality best known for his Emmy-nominated run on Saturday Night Live, has found himself back in the spotlight in recent years due to his vocal conservative political stance. Those political views and his parenting were recently called into question by his daughter, singer Elle King.

King was a guest on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast and blasted her father for his political views and his failures as a parent. She told the host that she “disagrees with a lot of the things he says” and “doesn’t want to be associated with him.”

Elle, who is also known for her outspokenness, didn’t hold back when asked about her childhood. She shared that she was never close to her father, and when given the chance to spend time with him it was usually on a movie set where she would “get lost in the shuffle.”

“If I ever messed up a shot, if I was talking, I would get in … trouble,” King said.

A big issue between Elle and Rob was her weight, which she says her dad tried to fix by sending her to fat camp.

“I was like a really, really heavy child. My dad sent me to fat camp…and then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle and didn’t lose any weight, very toxic and silly,” King explained. “I had already started getting tattooed and it was like 108 degrees. So I had to wear sweaters because my dad was very anti-tattoos or any form of self-expression,” King claimed.

She also accused her dad of forgetting every birthday, saying that she spent her 18th birthday at summer school, and when she got home, her dad had forgotten her special day. She concluded by saying that her dad is “just not nice.”

“You can want someone to change so much. You can’t control anyone else’s actions and you can’t control people’s feelings. All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings,” the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer said.

Rob Schneider responded to his daughter’s claims in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

The SNL legend sat down with Tucker Carlson a day after his Elle’s interview was released. Carlson started the conversation by asking Schneider about what he labeled “a family tragedy playing out in the news.” Schneider jokingly responded, “It’s fun being a parent, isn’t it?” Carlson replied, “It can be hard.”

Schneider responded without making excuses or denying Elle’s claims. Instead he looked directly into the camera and shared a personal, heartfelt message to his daughter.

“Elle, I love you. And I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly I wasn’t, and I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings,” Schneider said, looking emotional. “I love you completely. I love you entirely. And I just want you to be well and happy with you and your beautiful baby, Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible and I just want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.”

Tucker Carlson then asked the actor if it’s hard not to attack Elle back when she is so publicly shaming him. Schneider humbly replied, “When you love somebody completely, you just…I love her. All I want for her is to be happy and to heal from this.”
