Shaboozey and Megan Moroney Presented At The 2025 American Music Awards
Shaboozey and Megan Moroney were both present at the 2025 American Music Awards on Monday night (May 26). Held in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Fontainebleau, the show was hosted by Jennifer Lopez. Performers included Blake Shelton, Lainey Wilson, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Janet Jackson, and more.
Shaboozey was up for seven awards, including Favorite New Artist, Favorite Male Country Artist, Favorite Country Song, Song of the Year, Social Song of the Year, and Favorite Music Video.
Moroney was nominated for Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album.
Unfortunately, neither won any awards, but they were partnered to hand out the Favorite Country Duo or Group trophy, which ultimately went to Dan + Shay.
Shaboozey Seemingly Disagrees With Megan
After they walked out on stage, the singers talked about the history of country music at the AMAs.
“Country music has been part of AMA history. The very first year of the show, the Favorite Male Country Artist went to the great Charley Pride,” Shaboozey told the audience.
Moroney added, “That same year, Favorite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson, and this award [Favorite Duo or Group] went to The Carter Family, who basically invented country music.”
In a moment that has sparked much conversation online, Shaboozey seemingly disagreed with Moroney. He looked confused at her, then at the camera, then back at her, and laughed once he was looking at the camera again.

Shaboozey took to X on Tuesday (May 27) to address his reaction.
He also commented on Moroney’s Instagram post, defending her.
“Just want to clear something up: my reaction at the AMAs had nothing to do with Megan Moroney! She’s an incredibly talented, hard-working artist who’s doing amazing things for country music and I’ve got nothing but respect for her,” he wrote. “I’ve seen some hateful comments directed at her today, and that’s not what this moment was about. Let’s not twist the message – she is amazing and someone who represents the country community in the highest light!”
