Southern-Style Chocolate Gravy And Biscuits
on Apr 24, 2019 • Updated Jul 29, 2020
Yes…you can have chocolate for breakfast…and lunch and dinner and dessert! Our favorite way to eat this southern delicacy is ladled on top of a hot buttered biscuit. But, some have been known to eat it on top of fresh strawberries, on pancakes, or even on ice cream.
Don’t let the idea of sweet gravy keep you from missing out. This rich, decadent sauce has the ability to take an ordinary biscuit to a new degree of awesomeness. Most traditional gravy recipes require the use of bacon drippings or other such fat to create a roux that will help the gravy thicken. But, this chocolate gravy uses a simple method of whisking wet and dry ingredients together and cooking until thickened. A pat of butter and chocolate chips are melted in just before serving, making for a smooth, chocolatey gravy.
If you’re feeling brave, add a splash of bourbon or your favorite whiskey to make this an adult-only indulgence. ENJOY!
