Voice Champion Sundance Head Accidentally Shot Himself In The Stomach On Friday, November 15
Sundance Head has spoken out for the first time since accidentally shooting himself a few days ago.
The Season 11 winner of The Voice was hunting on his ranch in Texas on Friday, November 15, when he accidentally shot himself in the stomach. Head’s agent, Trey Newman, spoke with TMZ about the shooting and Sundance’s condition. He was eventually airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, to receive treatment.
TMZ reported that the bullet missed all of Sundance’s vital organs and lodged in a fatty area.
Sundance’s wife, Misty, explained the circumstances of the shooting in a post on his official Facebook page.
“He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his 22 when he grabbed it the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off. Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging. I thought he called 911 he didn’t- he put his hands in pocket for phone immediately after getting hit but phone wasn’t there just filled with blood so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help. 10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911.”
In that update, Misty also shared that “no internal damage was done by the bullet” that struck Sundance.
Misty shared an additional update on November 16, which included a photo of the shirt Sundance had been wearing when he accidentally shot himself.
Sundance came home that day, and Misty remarked how “lucky” he was:
“I’m posting a pic of his shirt just so y’all can see how lucky he was. Any higher or lower would have been devastating. I can’t express how grateful we are for all the messages, calls, and prayers. God is AWESOME,” Misty said.
Sundance Head Speaks Out After Coming Home From The Hospital
On Sunday (November 17), Sundance spoke out about the shooting for the first time in a video he shared on his social media pages. He started by thanking “the good Lord above,” the people who stopped to help him, the first responders, his medical team, and his fans.
“I was sure that I was gonna die,” Sundance said, “It was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me.”
He also described how the shooting and its outcome were incredibly rare. “If we could relive this thing and do it nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand more times, it wouldn’t happen,” he said.
Sundance said he’s still in a lot of pain. He also revealed that the bullet is still inside of him:
“I’m not sure…exactly what’s going to go on, all I know is that I didn’t die the day before yesterday, and I have another opportunity to live.”
The singer also promised to share a “wonderful story” in a later video about something positive that came out of this whole ordeal.
