There are going to be two supermoons this year and the first one is coming up on April 26, 2021. It’s called the “Super Pink Moon” and there’s something you should know about it.

Why Is It Called “Super Pink Moon”?

“Before you get your hopes up, this “Super Pink Moon” won’t actually look “super pink”—or any hue of pink, really. The Moon will be its usual golden color near the horizon and fade to a bright white as it glides overhead!” Almanac wrote.

The reason why it’s called the “Super Pink Moon” is because the Native Americans, Colonial Americans, and European settlers named each full moon according to the lunar month in which it occurred in. April was named pink due to the pink colors found in nature during that month.

The Best Time To See The Moon

Experts say it will start becoming visible in the sky at sunset and is expected to keep shining brighter until it reaches its full brightness at 11:33 p.m. eastern standard time.

If you can get in an open area where you can watch it rise above the horizon, that’s where it will appear largest in the sky and be the best view. The average supermoon appears about 7% larger in the sky and shines about 15% brighter than a regular full moon, so this one’s expected to be a beauty.

In addition to that, gardening season is in full effect now and the Old Farmer’s Almanac shared some helpful tips that show you the best days to do certain gardening activities based on the moon’s phases. Click the video below to learn more.
