Stories Of Hope & Heroism Emerge In Texas
Amid the devastation caused by the Texas floods, some survivors have found joy in reuniting with their beloved dogs.
Catastrophic flooding tore through the Texas Hill Country on July 4th. NBC News reported that the Guadalupe River surged up to 26 feet in a matter of minutes.
A July 15 report from ABC News states that the death toll has climbed to 134. Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp located next to the Guadalupe River, reported that 27 of its campers and counselors died in the floods.
During this heartbreaking time, people have come together to help Texans in need. Many stories of heroism have emerged, including that of Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskan, who saved 165 people from the floods.

People have been especially touched by stories centered around pets. An interview with high school senior Cody Vlasek went viral after his family reunited with their dog they thought they had lost in the floods.
The dog went missing as the family rushed to evacuate, and they made the tough call to head for higher ground without him. Their entire home was underwater within 20 minutes.
Miraculously, when Vlasek returned to the house, he found their dog safe inside their washing machine.
