The truck of the future!

You all have heard of the car company Tesla, right? They make sleek, energy efficient vehicles that range from $35,000 – $124,000.

Well, as of lately, a rumor has been going around that they will be releasing a pickup truck, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed during an appearance on the podcast Ride the Lightning over the June 1st weekend.

Not only did Musk confirm they are working on a truck, he also said what the price point will be.

“We don’t want it to be really expensive. I think it got to start at less than $50,000 – it’s got to be like $49,000 starting price max. Ideally less. It just can’t be unaffordable. It’s got to be something that’s affordable. There will be versions of the truck that will be more expensive, but you’ve got to be able to get a really great truck for $49,000 or less.”

Actually, Musk confirmed a truck earlier in the year, but nothing was really said after the following the sneak peek.

On the Ride the Lightning podcast, Musk also said that the truck will look “pretty sci-fi,” and have and incredible load carrying functionality, also boasting, “It’s going to be a truck that is more capable than other trucks. The goal is to be a better truck than a [Ford] F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality and be a better sports car than a standard [Porsche] 911. That’s the aspiration.”

Tesla has already proven that their SUVs can tow upwards to 250,000, so the truck will have to have at least the same or better towing capacity!

The Tesla truck might be unveiled this summer, but for now, check out some of the renderings that people have come up with below.
