Young Country Singer Earns 4-Chair Turn On The Voice
Monday night marked the second to last round of Blind Auditions on The Voice. With their teams quickly filling up, coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green had to be more selective about which artists earned a spot on their rosters.
But all four coaches couldn’t resist hitting their buttons for 31-year-old Kayleigh Matthews, a Tucson, Arizona, native who impressed them with an endearing performance of Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name.”
Riley praised Kayleigh for taking on a song by Vince Gill, calling him “one of the greatest vocalists in country music.” He said she had “big shoes to fill” but believed she more than lived up to the challenge.
Her performance also reminded him of the music he grew up listening to in Alabama, saying it transported him back home. Riley ultimately told Kayleigh that he would “love to work with” her and believed they could “do something great” together.
Kelly also chimed in, saying Kayleigh’s voice reminded her of several of her favorite female country singers, including Patty Loveless and LeAnn Rimes. She pointed out Kayleigh’s tone and the way she held certain notes, calling her a “musical baby” of multiple artists she admires.
All four coaches made their best pitch to Kayleigh, hoping to convince her to join their team. Adam Levine even dropped to one knee as he made his case.
After hearing them all out, Kayleigh ultimately went outside her country music roots and chose…. Queen Latifah as her coach.
