‘The Voice’ Battle Rounds Get Interesting As An “Odd Pairing” Takes On Tucker Wetmore Hit
on • Updated

Those who tuned in to the latest episode of The Voice saw two talented singers go head-to-head, but sadly, one of their journeys came to an end.
Season 30 of The Voice seems to be flying by, and the coaches and contestants are already in the Battle Rounds.
During this round, each coach pairs two artists together from their team to sing a duet. As they sing together, both contestants hope to stand out and earn a spot in the next phase of the competition.
Choosing a winner can be tough for the coaches, especially when both contestants put on such impressive performances. One of the hardest decisions came last night when Team Adam’s Evan James and Luke Curran covered Tucker Wetmore’s “Wind Up Missin’ You.”

During his Blind Audition, Evan received three chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green, and Adam Levine when he sang Morgan Wallen’s “Wasted On You.”
Everyone was shocked when he chose to join Team Adam, making him the only country artist on his 12-person team.

Luke, on the other hand, leans more towards folk music. He earned two chair turns from Adam and Riley after covering Jim Croce’s “Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels).”
In the end, he chose Team Adam, saying he was a “day 1 Voice fan.”

Who Won This Battle Round & Whose Journey On The Voice Came To An End?
Evan and Luke put on an incredible show together, playing off each other really well.
Evan looked comfortable on stage as he gave Wetmore’s song a modern sound. And even though Luke doesn’t usually sing country, he adapted easily and brought his own style to the hit.
When it was time for the coaches to give their feedback, Queen Latifah was the first to speak. She said they sounded “great together.”
“Y’all sounded locked in from the very beginning,” she continued. “This is gonna be a tricky one right here.”
Riley shared his thoughts next. He complimented both singers on how they handled the song, but admitted that if it were up to him, he would probably pick Evan because his sound fit the track better.
Kelly then pointed out that each of them brings different value in the way they perform.
“You have such different tones. I actually find this, like, a really cool, odd pairing,” she said.
Clarkson continued, “Evan, you have this presence, and you just fill up the space easily… and Luke, you have this rasp and soulfulness and storyteller vibe, which I really dig, too.”
So who did Adam choose as the winner of this Battle Round?
Adam clearly struggled to decide which singer he wanted to move forward in the competition. He said that, in his eyes, they were “neck and neck.”
But when it came time to make the call, Adam chose Evan as the winner. Adam later explained why he picked him, saying:
“Evan edged him out a little bit. He has a big, powerful voice that fills a room and whenever that happens, it is incredibly hard not to stay with someone like that. He could surprise us all and absolutely smash Cut Week.”
