Spensha Baker’s Cover of “Better Man”: Was It Enough To Save Her?

The Voice/YouTube

Voters in Season 14 of The Voice pared down the field of contestants last night, leaving the top 11 surviving singers to vie for the $100,000 prize and a recording contract.

This week’s theme of “Fan Night,” allowed fans to select their favorite songs for the artists to perform. The recommended songs are evaluated by coaches Blake Shelton,  Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Alicia Keys who work with the finalists to settle on the final choices.

Spensha Wows The Audience

Elated to be voted as one of the 11 still standing is Team Blake’s Spensha Baker, a 25-year-old real estate agent from San Antonio, Texas. Her soulful, emotion-filled cover of Little Big Town‘s hit, “Better Man,” wowed the audience and offered a velveteen version of the emotional lyrics. Genuinely mournful, Spensha shared the tale as if her heart had just been broken and it was she who had to make the very difficult decision to end a relationship gone wrong.

The well-spun ballad laments the break-up of a relationship and a heartfelt wish by the decisive lover as she turns away, that wish is that her lover might have been a “better man.”

“We might still be in love if you were a better man…”

While the man may have been kicked to the curb, the song, itself, was a huge hit for Little Big Town. The tune served as the lead single for the band’s eight studio album, “The Breaker,” released in 2017. The song went on to win Song of the Year and was nominated for Single of the Year, and Music Video of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards.

Guess Who Wrote This Song

You’ll never guess who wrote the song? Here’s a hint: her initials are T.S.  If you guessed Taylor Swift, you are correct!  No big surprise it turned out to be a huge success!

Swift says she wrote the song after the end of a relationship. It’s the tale of a lover who has stayed in a relationship too long, explains the reason she has, and the mixed feelings about ending it.

“Everybody has a better man. It might have been a lover, or a parent that disappointed you. I think the beauty of that storytelling is that we can all relate to being disappointed in someone and still loving them, but saying ‘Enough is enough’ … This would have been amazing if you would have gotten your act together,” Swift shared in an interview with Elite Daily.

If you’ve never had that feeling or experience before, you are lucky, friend.

Tune In To See Who Makes The Next Cut

Tonight, the 11 remaining contestants will be in the fight of their lives as they wait in suspense to see which of them will be sent home!

What do you think of Spensha’ performance? Can she wrap up the prize and bring it home?
