“Toby Keith: American Icon” Tribute Special Will Air Again One Year After Its Premiere
on Aug 20, 2025

The Late Toby Keith Was Honored During A Sold-Out Tribute Show At Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena
Last year, Toby Keith: American Icon aired on NBC. The tribute special honored the late country music star, who passed away on February 5, 2024 following a years-long battle with cancer.
Performers included Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Trace Adkins, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Riley Green, Ella Langley, Parker McCollum, and Toby’s daughter, Krystal. She performed a poignant rendition of his song “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”

The show was performed in front of a sold-out crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on July 29, 2024. The TV special aired on August 28, 2024, and it became NBC’s most-watched non-holiday special of the entire year.
In addition to honoring Toby, the American Icon special was also a benefit concert. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and The Toby Keith Foundation’s OK Kids Korral.
When Will Toby Keith: American Icon Air On TV Again?
After Toby Keith: American Icon originally aired, the special became available for people to watch on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock. However, Peacock is not a free service, so people who don’t pay for a subscription haven’t seen the program since it aired last year.
Now, fans will get another chance to watch Toby Keith: American Icon on regular TV. Toby’s team recently announced that the special will re-air on NBC on August 27, 2025, almost exactly one year after the initial broadcast.
The re-airing will start immediately after that evening’s episode of America’s Got Talent. Fans are encouraged to check their local TV listings for more details.
People were thrilled to hear about the new broadcast. They reacted to the announcement on social media, leaving comments such as:
“Miss this amazing patriot.”
“I will be watching! I am sure it will be awesome! Love Toby Keith and sorry he is no longer with us.”
“We all miss Toby fly high.”
“Can’t wait to see this!”
“I recorded it the first time. I watch it often. I still cry even though I’ve seen it 10 times or more. I still can’t believe he’s gone.”
“He is so missed… Norman OK feels a little empty since he went to Heaven.”
