Toby Keith To Receive Honorary Degree At University Of Oklahoma’s Graduation

The University of Oklahoma is set to bestow a special posthumous honor upon the late Toby Keith.

The university will award an honorary degree to Toby Keith, who was raised in Moore, Oklahoma, at this year’s commencement ceremonies. The special occasion will take place at the Lloyd Noble Center on May 11 at 9 a.m.

Dedication to the University and Community

Toby Keith, a committed and long-time supporter of the University of Oklahoma, had a strong presence in the local community. Not only was he a frequent attendee at OU sporting events, but he also had a close connection with the university administration.

Additionally, the renowned country star played a pivotal role in fundraising efforts for the 2013 Moore tornado survivors. He also contributed significantly to causes supporting children battling cancer, deeply impacting the local community.

Significance of the Honorary Degree

The honorary degree Toby Keith will receive acknowledges his significant and lasting achievements. In addition to Toby Keith, OU will bestow its highest honor upon Tom E. Love, Barbara Ann Posey Jones, and David Proctor at the upcoming commencement ceremonies.

Special Tribute to Toby Keith

The University of Oklahoma recently unveiled another special tribute to honor Toby Keith. In a touching display of appreciation, the OU Football team paid homage to Toby Keith during their recent Spring game by painting his name and image in their signature crimson color on the 25-yard line.

The University shared a heartfelt photo of this tribute on social media, symbolizing their enduring love for Keith.

Toby Keith, who battled stomach cancer for years, passed away on February 5, 2024. In response to his passing, OU’s president, Joseph Harroz Jr., issued a touching statement.
