Truett Foster McKeehan, the oldest son of Christian rapper TobyMac, passed away Wednesday (October 23) at his Nashville area home at the age of 21. Details surrounding his death haven’t been revealed, but the music community is rallying around Toby and his family.

Toby released a statement Thursday afternoon and honored his son, calling him “a magnetic son and brother and friend. If you met him, you knew him, you remembered him. His smile, his laugh, the encouragement he offered with words or even without. He had an untamable grand personality and dreams to match.”

Perhaps the most touching part of Toby’s post was the screenshot he shared of the final texts his son sent him. The photo shows heartfelt words from a proud dad as he tells Truett how proud he is of him. “I wanted to tell you how proud I was of you last night…Your joy is infectious,” Toby wrote of his son who was an aspiring singer. “I was very very very proud of you when you went down and stood on the front row after most people left you watched Nathan’s show from the front row and encouraged him. That kind of thing right there will take you farther than great art. God doesn’t miss those things like he notices things like that and blesses us I promise.”

Truett’s simple response showed his appreciation and love for his dad as he wrote, “Love you dad. Thank you so much. You have always believed in me…make me feel like a superhero.”
