Country crooner Blake Shelton may have been on the country music scene since the early 2000s but you’ve never heard him like this before. The platinum-selling singer is taking a break from his usual sound and gettin’ downright country in his latest single, “God’s Country.” With what we’re hearing, y’all better hope there’s an album not far behind.

In 2017, Shelton debuted his eleventh studio album, Texoma Shore with tremendous success. The album charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with several hits performing equally as well. “I’ll Name The Dogs” was the first single off Texoma Shore and reached No.1 with “Turnin’ Me On” not far behind.

Now, Shelton is back for more and this time he’s turning down the charm and adding a little bit of grunge.

God’s Country

Shelton released his sultry new single, “God’s Country” in March of 2019. The powerful tone in his voice paired with the strong instrumental background will bring chills to anyone who listens. Not to mention, the jaw-dropping lyrics Shelton shares,

“I saw the light in a sunrise, sittin’ back in a 40 on the muddy river side
Gettin’ baptized in holy water and shine with the dogs runnin’
Saved by the sound of the being found
Dixie whistle in the wind, that’ll get you Heaven bound
The devil went down to Georgia but he didn’t stick around
This is God’s country”

Fire & Flames

But on April 5, Shelton dropped the prequel for “God’s Country” with a mysterious and chilling video. It begins with “God’s Country” playing while a trail of fire leads up to a tractor. The slow motion of the flames as they reach the tractor brings an alarming feeling to what will come next. As the video goes on, the flames roar into the night as smoke takes over the sky.

Could there be something else coming? Perhaps a visual album? Only time will tell…

Until then, we’ll have “God’s Country” on repeat.
