As President Donald Trump was expected to announce a plan to lower the cost of weight-loss and obesity drugs during a White House press conference on Thursday (November 6), a man abruptly suffered a medical emergency.

According to reports from People and the Associated Press, the man, identified as a company representative attending the event, collapsed near the President as he spoke. Dr. Mehmet Oz, who serves as Trump’s head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, rushed forward and caught the man as he fell.

The briefing was briefly halted while the White House Medical Unit responded. Reporters were escorted from the room during the incident.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed that the man received immediate medical attention and was “okay.” The conference resumed shortly afterward, and Trump continued outlining his administration’s plan to reduce prices for popular weight-loss medications.

“During the Most Favored Nations Oval Office Announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted,” she said in a statement. “The White House Medical Unit quickly jumped into action, and the gentleman is okay. The Press Conference will resume shortly.”

The man was initially reported as Gordon Findlay, a Global Brand Director for Novo Nordisk, based in Basel, Switzerland.

Novo Nordisk later reported Findlay was not in the press conference, but two other executives were.

“Please be aware that CEO Mike Doustdar and EVP, US Operations, Dave Moore were the only two Novo Nordisk representatives in the Oval Office,” a spokesperson for Novo Nordisk said.

Trump Resumes Press Conference

When the press conference resumed, Trump addressed the incident, thanking Dr. Oz and the medical staff for their quick response before continuing his remarks on lowering the cost of weight-loss medications.

“One of the representatives of one of the companies got a little light-headed and so they went down, and he’s fine,” Trump said. “He’s got doctor’s care, but he’s fine. So we had a little bit of an interruption. Sorry for that,” he added.
