President Trump Says He Plans To Add Statues Of Black Icons To The National Garden Of American Heroes
During a Black History Month reception at the White House on Thursday, February 20, President Trump promised to add multiple statues of Black historical figures to the National Garden of American Heroes.
The National Garden of American Heroes is a proposed sculpture garden meant to honor those who have greatly impacted American history. Trump introduced the idea during his first term, but it never came to be due to approval and funding challenges. Now, in his second term, he is expected to move forward with the idea. Once completed, it is said to have a total of 250 statues.
“The garden will predominantly feature incredible women like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Coretta Scott King,” Trump stated.

Continuing to outline his plans for the site, Trump went on to name additional Black American Icons that he said would be featured.
“We’re going to produce some of the most beautiful works of art in the form of a statue for men like Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Jackie Robinson. What a great athlete he was. Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali..,” he continued.
Another iconic figure Trump announced would be included is the late Kobe Bryant. The former 18-time NBA All-Star undeniably changed the game of basketball with his influence on and off the court. Bryant tragically passed away at the age of 41 in a helicopter crash in 2020, along with his 13-year-old daughter.

“During Black History Month, we pay tribute to these heroes and to so many others, but not simply because they’re Black heroes, but also because they are truly American heroes who inspire all of us, very much so,” Trump said.
The location of the National Garden of American Heroes is still undecided. However, Trump has stated that plans for a final site are underway, with multiple states showing interest in wanting it.
