Video Captures Child Fleeing Bison Charge At Yellowstone

In a video taken over the past week, a child visiting Yellowstone National Park can be seen running when a nearby bison charges after him.
This comes just a matter of weeks after an elderly man and his grandson were chased by a bison in another moment caught on video at Yellowstone.

According to CBS News, on July 28, a dramatic moment with a bison was captured on video at Yellowstone National Park.
The video, which was taken by Brittany Peteler, shows a bison by a boardwalk at Yellowstone.
First, a few people can be seen passing by the bison that has made its presence within reach of the boardwalk abundantly clear.
A woman can be seen speed-walking past the domineering animal.
Then, in a second moment included in Peteler’s video, a family with children can be seen walking down the boardwalk toward the bison.
Suddenly, the bison’s stance shifts, as if to threaten them about the space, and one of the children in the family runs down the boardwalk in fear.
The bison then charges after him, but gives up as the boy darts out of sight.
From the video, it’s not entirely clear how and when the family got reunited, but there were no incidents with injury reported at Yellowstone involving bison that day.
This moment comes just a few weeks after the July 10 incident in which an elderly man, identified as Carl Isom-McDaniel, was caught on video as he was thrown into the air by a bison that chased him and his grandson.
That incident followed another situation with a bison at Yellowstone on June 26, which remains under investigation but led to a 12-year-old being injured and taken to a hospital.
In a news release issued after the 12-year-old was injured by a bison on June 26, the National Park Service said:
“Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal. They are unpredictable, can run three times faster than humans and will defend their space when threatened.”
According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, a bison can run up to 35 mph despite its weight of nearly 2,000 lbs.
The National Park Service goes on to advise visitors to stay “at least 25 yards away from all large animals, including bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes, and at least 100 yards away from bears, wolves and cougars.”
Continuing, the National Park Service adds, “If wildlife approach you, move away to maintain the required distance. Never approach, touch, feed or crowd wildlife, even if an animal appears calm.”
