Janis Putelis is an avid hunter/outdoorsman mostly recognized for his appearances on the Netflix show, MeatEater.

With years of experience, very few things come as a shock to him while hunting in the great outdoors. However, earlier this week he was surprised when a coyote appeared from the bush and tried to run off with a turkey he shot with his 12-gauge. Putelis uploaded the video to meateater.com and explained what happened:

“Earlier this week, I was turkey hunting with my wife in Montana when something unusual happened. After I called in a Merriam’s gobbler and shot it, a coyote ran in and tried to steal the bird. Here’s a video of the attempted heist in progress.”

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first unusual hunting experience that Putelis has experienced this season. He was recently hunting for turkey in Colorado when he was approached by three mountain lions at close range that were attracted by his turkey calls.

During the encounter, Putelis was able to capture footage that shows two of three mountain lions that came within yards of Putelis and his hunting partner. One pauses for a couple of seconds, staring directly at them before taking off into the woods.
