Noah Peters, also known as “The Singing Barber,” made his American Idol debut Sunday night (Feb. 25) with a stunning cover of Rascal Flatts’ “I Won’t Let Go.”

Peters in a barber from a small Tennessee town where he became famous for singing to clients while cutting their hair. After joining TikTok and sharing videos of himself singing alone and with clients, Peters became a viral star.

The Singing Barber had an opportunity to take his talent to the American Idol stage this season.

“[It] used to be just me singing, getting on people’s nerves, but now people come in just to hear me sing at the barbershop. It means a lot to me,” Noah said ahead of his audition. “Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of getting a golden ticket on American Idol. So getting to bring that back and frame it in my barbershop, it would mean the world to me.”

For his audition, Peters sang Rascal Flatts’ hit “I Won’t Let Go.” The judges enjoyed the performance but wondered if Peters felt “naked” without a barber chair and a client to work on while he sang. In a surprise move, producers brought in a chair, some haircutting tools, and a client. That client was none other than 2023 American Idol top 3 finalist Collin Stough.

Peters invited Stough to join him to sing Chris Stapleton’s “Broken Halos” while Peters gave the Idol album a trim.

Ultimately, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan voted unanimously to send Noah Peters through to Hollywood.

“You’ve got some sweetness to your voice. Some soul, some purity. But, it’s definitely going to need a blunt edge here and there,” Katy said, using barbershop terminology to get her point across. “Or some layers. Either way, it’s going to need some chippity-chop.”

Lionel agreed, telling Peters to relax and “stay true to your lane and you’ll be on to something.”
