Brook Wood Showcases Powerful Vocals Singing “Save Me” On The Voice

When it came time for her to audition for Season 27 of The Voice, Brook Wood left everything on the stage with a cover of Jelly Roll‘s “Save Me.” 33-year-old Wood was one of the last contestants to audition, meaning the coaches needed to be incredibly selective with who they chose for their teams.

But all four coaches were tempted to turn for the talented vocalist from Indianapolis. She showcased a ton of control, range, and power as she sang.

Singing “Save Me” is no small feat, which Wood surely knows. Jelly Roll released the original version of the song in 2020. He later remixed it with Lainey Wilson, and that rendition reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Jelly Roll and Wilson’s “Save Me” remix was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. The song has since been certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA.

In other words, “Save Me” is a song the Voice coaches know well. So, as they listened to Wood perform the track, they found themselves captivated by how she handled it.

Who Did Brook Wood Choose As Her Coach On The Voice?

Much to Wood’s relief, she got one coach to turn early in her performance of “Save Me.” That coach was John Legend, who’s been on The Voice for ten seasons and won once.

The other coaches all looked like they were considering pushing their buttons, too. Finally, near the end of the performance, Kelsea Ballerini flipped her chair around, giving Wood a well-deserved two-chair turn.

Despite not turning, reigning winner Michael Bublé called Wood’s performance “amazing.” Adam Levine agreed, saying he didn’t turn his chair because he wasn’t sure if he would be the right coach for Wood.

That left Legend and Ballerini to vie for Wood’s attention. Ballerini told Wood she “killed it.” They also connected over Wood’s love of country music and her desire to blend it with elements from other genres.

Legend talked up his past Voice experience and how he knows what it takes to win the competition. He told Wood, “You have the kind of voice that can win a show like this.”

But in the end, Wood exclaimed, “The girlies gotta stick together,” and she chose Team Kelsea!
