Bryce Leatherwood Announces Death Of His Granddad & “Hero”
Voice winner Bryce Leatherwood is mourning the loss of his beloved granddaddy.
On Sunday (June 22), Bryce broke the news to his followers that his granddad had passed away the day prior (June 21). Bryce said:
“Yesterday I lost my hero. It’s hard to put into words what someone means to you without writing a book…He was everything a grandson could ever ask for and more…”
Bryce shared that his granddaddy was the person who first fueled his love for country music. Because of him, Bryce felt inspired to chase a career in the genre and eventually auditioned for Season 22 of The Voice in 2022.
As MCA details, Bryce worked on his granddad’s farm each summer, where he played him songs from legendary artists such as Conway Twitty and George Jones. When Bryce auditioned for The Voice, he covered Conway’s “Goodbye Time,” resulting in a three-chair turn.
He chose Blake Shelton as his coach, who, coincidentally, released a famous cover of “Goodbye Time” in 2005.

“He was my mentor, teacher, and best friend and I sure am going to miss him.
