“Voice” Winner Jake Hoot Announces Engagement

Just nine months after he won Season 17 of The Voice, Jake Hoot is surely feeling like a winner again after the love of his life, Brittney Hoyt, said “yes” to his proposal!

Jake and Brittney first met seven years ago when they served as wedding singers at a mutual friend’s wedding. Even though a romance didn’t spark then, they reconnected later on in life. “We went our separate ways and were brought back into each other’s lives while doing missions in Nicaragua,” Jake told People.

After they reunited, Jake and Brittney fell in love. Now, they’re getting married!

“Here’s the big news!! I get to marry my best friend!” Jake wrote when announcing his engagement via a post on Instagram.

“I’m so glad the God kept bringing us back together time and time again!” Jake said. “And while its been tough keeping it all in over the past week, I’m so excited to spend the rest of our lives together! @brittneynicolehoyt I love you!“

The Voice champion noted that his daughter, Macy, “was pretty excited too.”

Brittney also spoke about her engagement on Instagram and shared a picture from the moment Jake got down on one knee:

“My whole life I’ve prayed for my husband,” Brittney wrote. “The man I knew that God would hand craft just for me. I’ve dreamt a lot about what it would look like and feel like, but never in my wildest dreams did I think it could be this good, this fun, this easy, this filled with peace and joy. @jake.hoot.music you are far more than I ever dreamt of!“

Brittney went on to say, “I could not be more thrilled to get to spend the rest of my life loving you! Cheers to forever with you, my very best friend!”

Jake shared more details of his proposal with People. He told the outlet he proposed on September 20 when they traveled to Brittney’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Her family was present for the proposal, and so was Jake’s mother:

“I knew how important being around family was to Britt, and with her birthday coming up, I knew it would be the perfect time to do it!” Jake told People. “She’s one of seven [kids], so arranging everyone to fly in and it still be a surprise was tough, but we all coordinated how it would happen, and it went off without a hitch!”

Jake said he kept the proposal a surprise, but Brittney immediately knew what was happening when she walked out and saw her family gathered around.

“She lost it!” Jake recalls of Brittney’s reaction. “I had to keep her moving forward because she was crying and trying to fall down on me! Then after I popped the question, we were both so emotional that I almost had to wrestle her arm to put the ring on her hand!“
