For more than 40 days and nights, this Army veteran drank only beer as he had given up all solid food for Lent. While many folks poked fun at this interesting type of fast, he says that it’s worked miracles for his waistline!

The 43-year-old Ohio man has been appearing on a lot of news outlets after the word started spreading about his massive weight loss – all thanks to some delicious craft brews!

Del Hall, who served our great country in the Army, now works pursuing his passion for craft beer. As the Director of Sales for Fifty West Brewing Company, it’s clear that Dell knows a thing or two about the beverage.

But that still leaves the question of why he chose to go beer-only for more than a month – plus, did this mean he was buzzing all the time?

Beyond just being a unique way to go about the traditional Lent fasting period, there’s quite a bit of science and smarts behind why he did this.

According to a report by Fox News, Del didn’t eat food for 46 days – and instead, spent Lent just drinking craft beer. But, he wasn’t buzzed because he made sure he was being responsible and smart about which beers he chose and when he drank them.

Each day of the fast Del only drank between two and five beers depending on his needs for the day. Outside of that, he says he drank a great deal of water – much more than he normally would have.

The fast was inspired, in part, by a unique part of the history of beer. He says that ancient monks in Bavaria used to drink only beer for Lent, too.

“I’m having so much fun with all this,” he told the news site. “Being a beer guy, you always hear this story about the monks in Bavaria, like in the 1600s, that they gave up all solid food for Lent and they only drank this special kind of beer that they called doppelbock. It’s got a lot of nutrients in it, a lot of carbohydrates, and a lot of sugar.”

In total, Del Hall lost about 44 lbs over the course of Lent – which is just short of one pound per day!

Del was at the top of his class in the Army and has run marathons before, but this unique diet has changed his views on food – and cured his addiction, he said.

“After 46 days of not eating food, I feel like I’m well educated now, and I’m ready to go to battle against obesity.”

“My health is so much better. My blood pressure. My cholesterol. Everything has improved over what I was eating before of the standard American diet…Craft beer is the way to go.”

Who knew that beer was the key to weight loss!? I’m ready to start my diet now!
