As Yellowstone gears up to start its fifth season, fans are understandably concerned about the fates of their favorite characters. Show creator Taylor Sheridan made it clear some of the characters’ lives are in danger, telling Entertainment Tonight. If you look at everyone as a chess piece, in Season 5 it is impossible to keep playing the game without taking pieces off the board.”

Cast members have doubled down on Sheridan’s comments. Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, told KPRC2 Houston ,”Everybody’s gonna be going, ‘what the hell’?” after they see what unfolds in Season 5.

Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, also uttered a comment that has fans worried. In a behind-the-scenes clip about the making of Season 5, she said, “It’s gonna be bloody.”

Fans are especially anxious to know if Rip Wheeler will make it through Season 5 alive. Rumors have started to spread that the beloved character (and husband to Beth) will die during Season 5.

Concerns increased when Yellowstone wished Rip a happy birthday in September. The show’s message said, “celebrating Rip Wheeler today and always. PS: Get ready, #YellowstoneTV fans. Something big is coming.”

Many fans read that as a hint that the “something big” is Rip’s death.

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, addressed fans’ concerns about Rip’s fate during a recent interview with TODAY. Thankfully, it sounds like Rip is safe…for now.

Cole doesn’t keep up on all of the fan theories himself. But his mom read some of the rumors online, and asked Cole if Rip makes it through Season 5. He said, “My mom’s told me a couple of [the rumors] and I said, ‘Mom, I do the killing. Don’t worry about it.

So it sounds like we don’t have to worry about Rip for the time being. That’s a big relief!

But several other characters could be at risk in Season 5. We’ll see what unfolds when the season kicks off on Sunday, November 13.
