An emotional Vince Gill struggled to make it through his heartbreaking performance of his iconic eulogic ballad, "Go Rest High on that Mountain," at the funeral commemorating the life of country legend George Jones held by the Grand Ole Opry.
Joined onstage by Patty Loveless, Gill choked up multiple times during the performance, stopping to wipe tears from his eyes throughout. During a solo on his acoustic guitar, Loveless comforts the clearly distraught country singer torn up by the loss of his friend. They sparked emotion throughout the room and moved everyone to their feet.
The world was rocked by news of Jones' death with his name on the forefront of headlines all over the world. The country legend died at age 81 in April of 2013 from hypoxic respiratory failure. Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, and Travis Tritt were among the many who honored him at his funeral alongside Gill. The week following his death, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" was re-entered into Billboard's country chart at No.21.
