American Idol Season 24 Hollywood Week is officially over, and only the Top 30 hopefuls remain in the competition.

Monday night’s episode (March 2) of American Idol featured emotional eliminations, a surprise round, and the announcement of the Top 30. The episode was the last of two Hollywood Week broadcasts.

For the first time in the show’s history, the week took place somewhere other than Hollywood. This season, the contestants who earned Golden Tickets during their audition gathered at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville. Each hopeful had a chance to sing one song with a full band in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

60 artists were moved to the Golden Room, a sign that they were still in the running for a spot in the Top 30. The rest were eliminated.

During Monday’s episode, Luke Bryan revealed that some of those in the Golden Room would have to sing once again to prove that they deserved to be in the Top 30 before final cuts were made.

The Sing-Offs

After deliberating, the judging panel revealed which artists were going head-to-head in sing-offs. The artists paired together “shared a lane” with their musical style and sound, something the judges felt like needed to be weeded out.

Jason Garner and Michael Garner were the first to battle it out, followed by Mary Jo Young and Chloe Lauren.

Micahel and Chloe were chosen to fill the final two spots in the Top 30.

What’s next for the American Idol Top 30?

The Top 30 will travel to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii for the first-ever Ohana Round. During this round, contestants will perform for judges, “industry tastemakers,” and family who will serve as a “focus group” to give judges an idea of public perception before they choose the Top 20.

Three performers during the Top 30 round will receive a Platinum Ticket.

“The judges have the power right all the way up to America’s vote of who they want to put through, and I thought it’d be interesting to do some sort of focus group before they get to America’s vote to inform the judges of who people are responding to,” showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick told Deadline.

The Ohana Round will air over the course of three episodes, starting on March 9. Viewer voting will come into play following the Ohana Round, and for the first time will allow real-time social media voting as well as texting and voting on the American Idol app.
