Season 24 belonged to Hannah Harper. She sang Merle Haggard, she took Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame night, she honored her grandpa with “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” and she closed the May 2026 finale with Lee Ann Womack beside her — finishing ahead of runner-up Jordan McCullough on the strength of her viral original, “String Cheese.”
She is the latest in a long line. Kelly Clarkson won the very first season. Carrie Underwood won hers and now sits at the judges’ table. Scotty McCreery, Gabby Barrett, Laine Hardy, Maddie Poppe and Iam Tongi all came through the same auditions — and so did the ones the show turned away, which is its own kind of story.
