When Blake Shelton said fans could expect to hear new music from him sometime soon, he wasn’t lying. On March 3, Shelton revealed that his latest single was set for release on Tuesday (Mar. 8), and now it’s here!

Prior to the song’s release, Shelton teased fans with the meaning behind it, making it clear that it is a deeply personal track “I’ve had a lot of music over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a song before that’s such a direct look into my life,” Shelton said in a statement. “That’s why I’m so excited about this particular song.”

Called “Came Here to Forget,” the song was written by Craig Wiseman and Deric Ruttan, and even though Shelton didn’t play a part in writing it, his past experiences allow him to connect to the lyrics.

The song provides an “intimate snapshot” of a couple that meets at a bar, with the first line sounding like a reference to Shelton’s ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, and his new girlfriend, Gwen StefaniGirl you’re getting over him, and I’m getting over her,” Shelton sings, before moving on to say that the two of them are “doing our best to make the best of the worst of it.

Although the song is still brand new, fans are already loving it, and a few hours after its release it snagged the top spot on iTunes‘ country songs chart. Shelton tweeted about the accomplishment, showing his appreciation to his fans for their support.

Shelton already has over 20 number one hits, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he earns another one with “Came Here to Forget.” You can listen to it in the clip below.
