Just finishing the last few notes of an epic performance of their super-hit, “Roll With Me”, Montgomery Gentry got the surprise of a lifetime when a legendary country star interrupted their set!
Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry had barely debuted their sixth studio album a year prior, and had seen huge success with two of its singles when they found themselves awestruck on the famed Opry stage.
“Hey! Hey! Hang on a minute!” a voice shouted at them from the back of the Opry house.
That booming voice was none other than country legend Charlie Daniels. The reason he interrupted their set?
After exchanging pleasantries, the duo’s longtime friend revealed something incredible…
“I have been chosen to do something that’s very, very special to me,” Daniels began. “I’ve known you guys ever since you first started. I am very proud of the accomplishments you’ve made and I know how hard you’ve worked.”
“I just wanted to inform you,” Daniels continued with a chuckle. “If you guys agree to it, on the 23rd of June, you’re going to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry!”
With that last sentence, the audience roared to life with excitement and while they had plenty to say, the members of Montgomery Gentry were left completely speechless!
“Well, say something!” Daniel’s bellowed at the duo.
The three continued with some humorous banter and of course Montgomery Gentry accepted the invitation to join!
Now, this pair of legendary country singers have been beloved members of the Grand Ole Opry for nearly seven years!
