Charlie Daniels Delivers Soaring Rendition Of ‘How Great Thou Art’ At 80th Birthday Jam

At age 80, Charlie Daniels is still going strong. He continues to daze and amaze crowds across the country with his energetic performances, especially whenever he plays “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Daniels kept that level of energy going when he sang a special song at his 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam on Wednesday (November 30). That song was “How Great Thou Art,” which with the Christmas season approaching, seemed like an appropriate choice.

“How Great Thou Art” is a traditional Christian hymn, which was written by Swedish poet Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885. It has been a favorite song of country artists for decades, and artists such as Carrie Underwood and Home Free have proudly performed it for their fans.

We’ve heard many versions of “How Great Thou Art,” and we have to say, Daniels’ is definitely one of the most powerful. With the thunderous roar of his band behind him, Daniels stepped up center stage and sang his heart out. He slowed down the arrangement and put complete focus into delivering each lyric with intense passion.

Daniels’ dedication to the song was also evident from his actions on stage. You could just tell by the look on his face and the way he moved that he fully believed in each word that he was singing.

You’re really missing out if you don’t watch Daniels’ performance of “How Great Thou Art” in the video below. His entire career has been nothing short of remarkable, and this performance proves why. He’s a living legend!
