Candace Payne/Facebook
Texas mom Candace Payne found herself an instant internet star with her hilarious “Happy Chewbacca” video. Three days ago (May 19), Payne went live on Facebook to share a gift she purchased for her own birthday. That gift was a Chewbacca mask purchased from Kohl’s after the mom made a trip to the store to return some clothing. As Candace watches herself wearing the mask on her phone screen, she erupts into laughter and can’t seem to stop.
The video has garnered more than 131 million views making it the most watched video in Facebook Live history.
Not only did Payne’s video cause a flood of Chewbacca mask purchases, but it drove a great deal of traffic to Kohl’s department store…something that didn’t go unnoticed by the store’s management. As a result, Kohl’s wanted to return the favor and gave the mom and her family a huge surprise!
Representatives from the department store where she had originally purchased the electronic mask showed up at Payne’s home with Star Wars goodies, including Chewbacca masks for her entire family.
“Candace didn’t want to share her Chewbacca mask. So we showed up to make sure she didn’t have to! #AllTheGoodStuff,” Kohl’s said on Twitter.

The store also gave the Payne family $2,500 in gift cards and 10,000 reward points.
