In one of the most emotional America’s Got Talent auditions to ever air, 13-year old Evie Clair brought an entire audience to tears with a tearful performance dedicated to her ailing father.

During the 2017 fall season of AGT, the young Arizona native told judge Simon Cowell that her father was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer.

“They gave him a fiver percent chance to live, and he continued working and supporting our family,” Evie Clair said as she fought back tears. “So tonight I’m here to sing for him.”

The teen chose to perform “Arms” by Christina Perri, a song that she sings for her dad when he’s having a bad day.

“When my dad is having rough days, I go to his room and I sing him this song to help him feel better and just to give him comfort and strength to continue fighting.”

As her parents watched from the side of the stage, Simon Cowell commended Evie’s bravery and challenged her to deliver the best vocal performance she’s ever done. After composing herself, Evie did just that. The crowd wept as the teen sang her heart out for her father. The performance brought the audience and judges alike to their feet and earned Evie a place in the next round of the competition.

Luckily, Evie made it all the way to the finals and her father watched her on television from his hospital bed for the last shows leading up to the finals. Unfortunately, he passed away just before he was able to see her final performance.

Watch Evie Clair tell her emotional story and sing “Arms” in the video below.
