In 2008, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus were at the height of their popularity together thanks to their Disney Channel television show Hannah Montana.
Billy Ray had already established himself as a country music star, which made the show even more enjoyable for parents to watch with their children.
Because of their celebrity status and their connection to country music, the father-daughter duo was asked to host the CMT Awards show together in 2008.
Performers that year included Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson and Toby Keith.
In one of the funniest moments of the night, Billy Ray was letting the audience at home know how to vote for the Video of the Year. He was explaining all the rules and how to vote via text, but all he could focus on was the fact the Miley was busy texting while they were on stage!
“Miley, I’m tryin’ to concentrate over here!” Billy Ray said, annoyed.
“Oh, sorry. I love to text,” she tells the audience with an angelic smile.
“Yeah, I know. I pay your cell phone bill,”
“Who are you kidding? I pay yours!” she said without skipping a beat.
The crowd erupted in laughter and screams, and the camera panned to dropped jaws from Underwood, Reba McEntire, and many more audience members.

Not only did the Cyruses serve as co-hosts, they also performed their song “Ready, Set, Don’t Go”. Billy Ray first released the song solo in August 11, 2007 and released it as a duet with his daughter just a few months later.
Cyrus wrote the song before Miley moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and audition for Hannah Montana.
Cyrus will be a fixture on CMT soon. His brand new show Still The King premieres on Sunday, June 12! Set your DVRs and make sure you watch the trailer here!
