Ricky Skaggs is known for his incredible mandolin, fiddle, and banjo skills, but did y’all know Ricky is also a romantic?!
In a rare video of Ricky and his wife, Sharon White, performing on the Hee Haw show many years ago, Ricky talks about his relationship with Sharon.
Their initial bond was music-based, and when they got married, Ricky explains that the couple wanted their wedding to be based around their love for each other and their love for music.
On their special day, Sharon sang a song to Ricky and naturally, he sang a song to her. They also sang a song to each other. Ricky said, “It was really the first love song we ever sang to each other. We’ve never recorded this, but we should.”
They go on to sing the song “If I Needed You“, originally recorded by Townes Van Zandt in 1972, but made famous by Emmylou Harris and Don Williams in 1981.
Sharon is famous on her own merit; she is the lead singer of country music band The Whites, which consists of her sister and father. Ricky performed on many of theIr early releases.

Lyrics
If I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me for to
ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I’d swim the seas for to ease your pain
Well, in the night forlorn, oh, the morning’s born
And the morning shines with the lights of love
And you will miss sunrise if you close your eyes
And that would break my heart in two
The lady’s with me now since I showed her how
To lay her lily hand in mine
Loop and Lil agree, she’s a sight to see
A treasure for the poor to find
Well, if I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me and ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I’d swim the seas for to ease your pain
