Touching Joey + Rory Video For “Softly & Tenderly” Proves Just How Strong Joey Is Amid Cancer Treatment
on Sep 01, 2015
Country duo Joey + Rory are truly an inspiration to all. As Joey battles cancer (again), and in between chemotherapy and radiation therapy sessions, she sits in her hotel room and sings hymns.
Not only is she singing hymns she loves and grew up singing, she is recording them for an upcoming Joey + Rory album. In a blog, written by Rory, he shares intimate pictures of Joey singing in their home-made studio in their Atlanta hotel room.

The album is something Joey has always wanted to do. It will include “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Old Rugged Cross“, “I Surrender All“, “How Great Thou Art“, “He Touched Me“, to name a few.
Their sweet baby Indiana sits by Joey’s feet or sits in a chair nearby, “innocently unaware of what her mama is going through.”

Joey’s strong faith is no surprise. In July, the married couple shared a video of Joey singing the hymn, “I Need Thee Every Hour“ on her hospital bed right before she went in for surgery for her cervical cancer.
The video they shared on their blog is of Joey recording the hymn “Softly and Tenderly“, which will be included in their album. It documents their life while she is undergoing cancer treatment, playing with Indiana at their hotel room, and getting various scans.
This song a testament to Joey’s strength as she battle Stage IV cervical cancer with the support of her loved ones and fans. This weekend, they will be traveling back to their farm to play two sold out shows Friday and Saturday.

Lyrics
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.
Refrain:
Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.
Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.
