A Fresh-Faced Hank Williams Jr. Performs Heartbreaking ‘Rainin’ In My Heart’

When The Cowboy Sings/YouTube

Appearance-wise, he may look extremely different, but Hank Williams Jr. fans can tell that he sounds exactly the same today as he does in this video.

Before he sported a beard, hat and sunglasses everywhere he went, Hank Jr. was a clean-cut country singer who was the musical guest on the hit TV show Hee Haw. As he sat in a chair with his feet on an ottoman, he sang the heartbreaking song “Rainin’ In My Heart”.

He portrayed such strong emotions as he sang, “Don’t let me cry in vain try my love just once again/Now honey I need your love and darling you know/So if you just come on back home there’ll be no need for me to cry/Rainin’ in my heart since we’ve been apart I know I was wrong darling please come on home.

Not only did his singing blow us away, but he also impressed us with an awesome acoustic guitar solo in between verses.

“Rainin’ In My Heart” was originally recorded by legendary blues musician Slim Harpo in 1961. It was one of his most popular and influential songs in his career. Hank Jr. put his own spin to it, while staying true to the feel of Harpo’s original.
