One of the most heartbreaking things a child can go through is to see their parents age. It becomes even more difficult when when time robs them of their memory with diseases such as Alzheimer’s or dementia.
But, in many Alzheimer’s cases the patient may forget names and faces and other important things about their lives, but may retain knowledge of music. Such is the case with Kelly Riddings’ 88-year-old mom.
In two emotional videos posted to Facebook by Riddings, he joins his mom to sing the old classics “Dreaming of a Little Cabin,” made popular by MacWiseman, and “Praying” by Vern Gosdin.
The videos show Riddings squatting next to his mother’s chair as she sits with guitar in hand. As his mom strums the opening chords, Riddings launches into a flawless melody as his mom’s crystal clear voice perfectly harmonizes.
Riddings shared in his Facebook post that his mom is in assisted living but can still play and sing as good as ever.
“I realized while I was singing with her tonight, I had never videoed us singing together, so I captured a couple of songs for posterity,” Riddings wrote. “Most days I miss her, but she always comes back to me when we sing.”
