Archie Campbell & Conway Twitty Sing “Pfft You Was Gone” On ‘Hee Haw’

This country legend left the audience in a frenzy when he finished out the chorus of the hysterical country duet, “PFFT! You Was Gone!” As part of the country music television variety show, Hee Haw, Conway Twitty showed up on set to delight fans with his hilarious rendition of the comedic duet.

What is Hee Haw?

Hee Haw was a popular American television variety show blending country music and comedy, known for its rural-themed humor and catchy musical performances. Premiering in 1969 and running until 1993, it was set in the fictional Kornfield Kounty and featured a mix of skits, jokes, and performances by country music stars. Hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark led a cast of regulars and guest stars through comedic sketches and musical numbers, making Hee Haw a beloved staple in American entertainment, especially among rural and country music fans.

In an episode where Conway Twitty was the guest star and took part in the famous skit “PFFT! You Was Gone!”

“Where, oh where, are you tonight?” interrupted Twitty to Archie Campbell. “Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over, and I thought I’d found true love, You met another, and PFFT! You was gone!”

Starting with his back turned to the camera while Campbell sang the heartbreaking tale of a man being left by his wife for another, Twitty turned finally at the chorus of the song smiling ear-to-ear to a crowd of cheering fans.

Hee Haw was a television variety show based around the world of country music, running from June 1969 to September 1992. “PFFT! You Was Gone” was a cornerstone of the show, with some of the biggest names to ever hit the genre stopping by to take a crack at the duet.
